From a recently published paper by Alexander Krauss:
Using the data of all important discoveries in all sciences including all Nobel laureates and major Nobel Prize winners, we can address the question of how much the “scientific method” is used in basic scientific research and whether we need to expand this. the main idea of science. This study shows that 25 percent of all discoveries since 1900 did not use the standard scientific method (all three factors)—6 percent were discoveries without observation, 23 percent were not using experiments, and 17 percent were not testing hypotheses. . Empirical evidence thus challenges the conventional view of the scientific method.
