In a blog post about the acquisition, John Maddison, Fortinet’s chief marketing officer, said Lacework offers proprietary AI and machine learning technology, an agent and redundant architecture for data collection, a home data pool, and powerful security code that provides integration. Cloud-Native Application Platform services to secure what happens within the cloud.
“We intend to make the platform even more powerful by integrating it with Fortinet’s firewall and WAAP capabilities to continue to help customers identify, prioritize, and remediate risks and threats to complex cloud infrastructures from code to code,” said Madison. “Specifically, the combination will allow customers to protect what happens inside the cloud application and what happens between the application and the outside world.”
Lacework is part of a cloud workload protection platform that a recent report from Frost & Sullivan calls highly fragmented, which includes cloud service providers, traditional network and endpoint security vendors, vulnerability assessment vendors, and startups specializing in cloud security. More than 50 vendors compete in the CWPP space worldwide, including Palo Alto, Microsoft, Broadcom/VMware Carbone Black, Wiz and Check Point. Until recently, Wiz was heavily rumored to have acquired Lacework.
