Over 35,000 Ether subscribers targeted in crypto draining campaign

In comparison, the company said it found 81 email addresses on the outbound mailing list that were not part of the threat actors’ list.

The phishing emails included an announcement that the Ethereum Foundation is partnering with Lido decentralized autonomous organization (LidoDAO) to offer a 6.8% yield on deposits of Ether (stETH), Wrapped Ether (WETH), or Ether (ETH) . The message assures subscribers that the staking will be “Protected and Verified by the Ethereum Foundation.”

“This website has a crypto drainer running in the background, and if a user starts their wallet and signs a transaction requested by their website their wallet would be empty,” the open blockchain platform said in a blog post.
