AI teaching assistants? – Sideline REVOLUTION

“Morehouse College is organizing using AI teaching assistants to help extract educational code.

Why it matters: Morehouse professor Muhsinah Morris says every professor will have an AI assistant in three to five years.

  • Morris says technology has taken off faster in the last 24 months than it has in the last 24 years. Meanwhile, baby boomers are leaving the workforce due to a national teacher shortage and burnout.

How does this work: Morehouse professors will work with technology partner VictoryXR to create virtual 3D virtual avatars. Avatars use OpenAI to have two-way verbal conversations with students.

  • Avatars use professor-created content and 3D models for courses, such as molecules for chemistry courses, to help students.
  • Avatars can also respond to unrelated topics suggested by students and direct students back to the course.
  • Students will have 24/7 online access to an avatar, which can communicate in the student’s native language.

What they say: Morris called avatars the world’s first AI teaching assistants.”

That’s all from Axios. Anecdotal.
