To give the scope of this, more than 3,000 flights in, to, or out of the US were canceled on July 19, with more than 11,000 delays. Flights have continued to be grounded in the days since, as nearly 2,500 flights have been canceled within, in, or out of the US, and more than 38,000 have been delayed, three days after the blackout.
The outage also had a major impact on the healthcare industry, with some healthcare systems and hospitals relegating all or most procedures and pen-and-paper physicians, who have no access to EHRs.
Given the nature of the fix for most businesses, and the popularity of CrowdStrike’s software, IT organizations have been working around the clock to restore their systems, many still surprised to do so days after the flawed update was delivered by CrowdStrike.
