“I found a collection of different documents, including voting records, ballot templates, and voter registration, all from one county in Illinois,” Fowler said in the report. “Another investigation revealed that 13 open databases and 15 others exist but are not available to the public.”
The 13 exposed databases that are not password protected contain lists of active voters, absentee voters, early voting records, and repeat voters, as well as highly sensitive personal information such as full names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. Additionally, candidate documents containing personal phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses were also exposed.
“There were documents marked ‘voter records’ containing potentially very sensitive personal information,” Fowler added. “This included historical voting records and copies of voter registration applications.”
