6 Websites to Sell Your Clutter

Gone are the days when you had to rely on Craigslist or eBay to sell the junk you wanted.

Today, there are dozens of websites and apps — from Facebook Marketplace to Letgo and OfferUp — that can help you get cash for your junk by connecting you with buyers in your area.

But what if you don’t want to meet someone face-to-face to close the sale? Headlines about mergers gone wrong can give you pause about selling your stuff that way.

If you don’t want to risk the exchange in person, you can sell your items on a website that allows you to send them by post. These sites pay for your items and handle reselling. Generally, all you have to do is post your items.

The following are many such options. Unless otherwise specified, all of these sites cover the cost of shipping your items, such as providing you with a prepaid shipping label.

1. Amazon Trade-In

There are sellers willing to take your unwanted items for cash or store credit, as we explain in “6 Websites That Will Sell Your Junk.” Amazon is no different.

The Amazon Trade-In program will give you an Amazon gift card for a limited amount of eligible items, including video games, mobile devices and Amazon devices.

To learn more: Visit the Amazon Trade-In program webpage. To find out how much Amazon will give you for an item, click on the appropriate trade-in category, such as “Tablets” or “Streaming Media Players.”

To learn more: Visit Gazelle and click on “Sell Smart.” To find out how much the site will give you for an item, click on the appropriate category, such as “Sell iPhone” or “Sell Samsung.”

Do you have a gift card you know you won’t use? Don’t let it spill. It is possible to use GCX to sell your gift cards for a large face value.

Formerly known as Raise the Market, GCX is an online platform for buying or selling gift cards. Connects people with unwanted gift cards with savvy shoppers looking to buy gift cards at a discount.

You write your card to be sold there. If it sells, you earn.

While you’re there, you can also buy discounted gift cards to use at the stores you actually visit.

To learn more: Visit GCX. To list a gift card for sale, first search for the store name and look for the sale option in the left hand column.

Don’t want to take your clothes to the thrift store? ThredUp may be an option for you.

One of the easiest ways to get rid of clothes in your closet is to order a Clean Out Kit. Fill this bag with high-quality, gently used clothing or accessories, and send it to ThredUp. (You can drop it off at a FedEx Office or a US Postal Service location.)

The website will then take care of capturing and selling the items. Once they make a sale, you get cash or credit, minus the $14.99 processing fee in your bag.

To learn more: Visit ThredUp.

6. Powell’s
