Apart from this, the road map identifies various blocks that slow down BGP switching for a long time. One is that the negative effects of its insecurity are often not felt directly by service providers who do not directly reimburse the funds. And it doesn’t help that some providers will need to change or upgrade routers to be compatible with ROV.
In retrospect, ONCD recommends that ISPs evaluate the technical effects ROA and ROV implementation may have on their organization and include the issue of BGP security as part of their cybersecurity risk assessment.
The full recommendations cover many points, and go into detail on how ISPs should contract for IP transport, cloud and infrastructure. The main message is clear: service providers should monitor the quality and threat profile of their BGP setup rather than leaving it to other people to clean up the mess.
Anyone working in the ISP space will need to carefully read the ROA and ROV road recommendations. For large ISPs, of course, this reduction is now part of the best practice.

“What’s a bit worrying is that the American government seems to be going on its own, even establishing a new group whose members have not yet been announced,” said McCarthy.
