The US construction industry has seen an increase in demand in recent years.
Amid rising demand, construction companies have struggled to find enough work. To deal with labor shortages, the industry is increasingly drawing on a historically underrepresented demographic: women.
To find the highest paying states for women to work in construction, researchers at Construction Coverage analyzed data from the US Census Bureau and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.
The following ranks them according to the median annual earnings of full-time female workers in the construction industry, adjusted for differences in the cost of living. Read more about performance analysis at the end.
Here are the states that pay the most for women in construction.
15. Nevada

How to do it
To find the regions that pay the most for women in construction, researchers at Construction Coverage analyzed data from the US Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey and cost-of-living data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis’s 2022 Regional Price Parities dataset.
Countries are ranked by the average annual salary of women working full-time in the construction industry, adjusted for cost of living differences. The researchers also calculated the average annual earnings of full-time women in all occupations and women’s share of full-time employment in the construction industry.
To improve the reliability of the results, 5-year estimates were used to calculate state-level statistics, while 1-year estimates were used to calculate national-level statistics.
