Governments fear meddling in elections, but it’s a business cybersecurity issue as well

The surprising fact is that the United States is burning with political divisions and is deeply focused on the efforts of China, Russia, and Iran, who are actively working to inject dishonesty into the electoral process. They do this with a constant flow of well-organized misinformation and disinformation and they throw in cyberattacks that are used to add jet fuel to an already heated political environment.

In those countries that hold elections, these actions are aimed at voters and the public, sometimes to vote for a particular side, in others to sow chaos. Think of a Venn diagram of the nation’s political spectrum, overlaid with the views of your employees or contractors.

Now add your business and senior leadership positions to politicians or policies. Differences will and will exist, and while in theory those viewpoints shouldn’t matter, in practice, they are ripe for digital exploitation.
