To better leverage the power of data and digital services, businesses are increasingly integrating operational technology (OT) and IT networks to drive efficiency and business value.
But connecting previously isolated OT systems to IT networks exposes them to a wide range of cyber threats, including denial of service disruptions and ransomware attacks, and OT systems, which are often outdated and originally designed to operate in an airspace environment, can introduce new risks to networks companies.
As such, the growing integration of OT into IT networks makes IT security a growing concern for mainstream CISOs – not just those working in petrochemicals, utilities, or other typical industrial domains. That’s because a growing variety of environments, from data centers to office buildings, have come to rely heavily on OT systems for everything from HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) controls to building access, among other OT uses.
