The US says China is conducting mass espionage using hacked telcos

This statement is in line with a recent WSJ report in October, which said that a China-backed threat actor, which Microsoft is targeting as Salt Storm, has hacked into US Internet Service Provider (ISP) networks to steal sensitive US data and verify persistence.

Affected telcos may include AT&T, Verizon

While the FBI withheld technical details of the investigation, adding “our understanding of these compromises will increase as the investigation continues,” the WSJ reported that three of America’s leading broadband providers — AT&T, Lumen Technologies, and Verizon Communications — may have those involved.
