Organize tagging to include reporting
As mentioned, FinOps teams tend to be small; thus, improving the way groups access data synchronously and communicate with a common dictionary is important. One area to focus on is your tagging taxonomy, says Cloudbolt’s Campos.
To truly collaborate, security and FinOps teams must adhere to a standardized taxonomy as far as cloud computing is concerned, he said. This configuration allows both parties to view the same reports, alerts, and response patterns.
In Campos’s experience, organizational silos first appear in data structures, then result in behavior and lack of communication, often leading to overlapping work without awareness. In addition, using security tools often provides earlier detection of problems compared to FinOps tools, which often delay data visibility for a long time, Campos said. All the more reason to get security and FinOps teams on the same page, with the same dictionary, to ensure they can work together with tools for the benefit of the business as a whole.
