US may draft legislation to contain China’s cyber espionage

The case has raised bipartisan concerns over China’s influence on the Internet. While Republican lawmakers have accused tech platforms of political bias, Salt Storm is focused on securing national infrastructure.

Last month, the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) immediately banned employees and contractors from using cell phones to make work-related calls. The move stems from concerns about possible eavesdropping and data theft, stemming from what officials described as a new spying operation by Salt Storm.

Companies like Verizon, AT&T, Lumen, and T-Mobile are implicated in the breach. Verizon confirmed that it was one of several companies targeted by the hackers, who focused on targeting key political and government figures. IT-Mobile and Lumen said customer data remains untouched.
