Cardiac surgery device manufacturer falls victim to ransomware

The healthcare industry has been increasingly in the crosshairs of cyber attackers this year, with ransomware next to the industry’s biggest threats. Hackers attack IT systems and personal data, among other things, with the intention of fraud or theft.

But it’s not just hospitals that are affected by cyber attacks; their suppliers are also under attack. Artivion, a leading manufacturer of medical equipment for cardiac surgery, announced that it was the victim of a ransomware attack on November 21 that forced the company to take some systems, including parts of its accounting department, offline.

According to the company, although it can continue to provide its customers with its products and services, the incident has led to the disruption of some ordering and shipping processes, as well as some business activities. These problems have been greatly reduced, but the company cannot guarantee that this incident will not have a major impact going forward.
