Inadequate logging
“This is no longer just a matter of supervision. “It’s a blatant disregard for what Microsoft is doing, given the challenges and lessons the industry should have internalized by now,” said Blech. “The heart of the matter lies in Microsoft’s logging and telemetry capabilities, which Amazon has shown to be inadequate for its security needs. This shortcoming is not just a technical gap – it is a fundamental breach of trust.”
Another cybersecurity vendor CEO is Matthew Webster, who runs Cyvergence. Webster applauded Amazon, saying “Amazon’s efforts not only protect their interests but also help strengthen the environment for countless other companies.”
“Companies usually do everything possible to protect modern infrastructure, but this case stands out because it involves two industry giants who pay close attention to security. “What makes Amazon different is that their influence ensures systemic change across Microsoft, which benefits the broader environment rather than a single organization,” Webster said. “In contrast, smaller companies often request changes as part of legal contracts, but this is often a one-off, especially in non-cloud environments. I have seen such methods lead to inefficiencies and accidents. When a large company like Amazon makes a request—especially in the cloud—it’s handled very hard, reducing the potential problems.”
