The challenge here is that, while from a security point of view we can agree that it’s smart, it can definitely put developers and vendors at a competitive disadvantage. Those who don’t prioritize safety-by-design can get features, functionality, and products to market faster, resulting in stronger market share, revenue, customer attraction/retention, and more.
Additionally, many vendors are backed by venture-capital, which comes with expectations of a return on investment — and the fact that cyber is good. one of the many dangers their business faces. They must maintain market share, achieve revenue goals, deliver customer satisfaction, increase brand awareness/exposure, and achieve highly profitable business results.
It is challenging to maintain a single focus on cyber security: Companies have limited time, attention, and resources, and especially in their earlier stages they must allocate those resources strategically to ensure the growth and resilience of the organization as a whole.
