When answering human questions, AI clones’ answers are slightly different from their human counterparts. They excel when it comes to reproducing answers to human questions and determining public attitudes. But they were less accurate when it came to predicting behavior in interactive games involving economic decisions.
It’s a question of purpose
The impetus for the development of simulation agents was the possibility of using them to conduct studies that would be expensive, impossible, or contrary to real human studies, the scientists explain. For example, AI models can help evaluate the effectiveness of public health measures or better understand reactions to product launches. Even modeling reactions to important social events can be considered, according to the researchers.
“General objective simulations of human attitudes and behaviors—where each modeled individual cannot engage in all social, political, or informational situations—can enable researchers’ laboratories to test a broad set of interventions and theories,” the researchers wrote.
