Top challenges delaying CISOs’ agendas

Over the past decade, every CISO knew the question that awaited them in the boardroom: Can we survive the next cyber attack? Now, as the tumultuous year 2024 draws to a close, concerns are mounting, says Don Gibson, CISO at Kinly. Board members often ask: Can we survive these economic times? Or are we prepared for geopolitical storms?

Intensifying global conflicts, economic instability, and a proliferation of new regulations are putting pressure on CISOs and their organizations. Today, chief information security officers must manage multiple issues—often with limited resources.

Tight budgets, competing priorities, and the ongoing struggle to attract and retain skilled talent are among the obstacles CISOs face in their quest to secure organizations, according to a recent study by Foundry. Other challenges include low employee awareness and training, as well as organizational and cultural barriers, all of which can hinder their ability to work effectively.
