Mark Lutter reports on the Bahamas (from my email)

I won’t double down, this is all by Mark:

“The Prime Minister of the Bahamas recently gave a speech about revitalizing Grand Bahama. He called on the existing owners of Intercontinental Diversified Corporation, the company that owns Freeport, not to reinvest and sell various pieces of property. Looking for a world-class partner to develop Grand Bahama. Part of his cabinet attended the speech in person. It is the strongest position the Prime Minister has taken in 50 years regarding Grand Bahama.

Here’s some more background reading on Grand Bahama and Freeport. The Prime Minister has two years left in office and has made the revival of Grand Bahama his political legacy. Some important facts about Freeport

  • 70k+ hectares of developable land under the Grand Bahama Development Company
  • Infrastructure to support 250k citizens, current population is 50k
  • 25 minute flight to Miami
  • The existing legal structure of the city is chartered, although some of the rights of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, the city government, have been abolished over time.

I hope you find this interesting enough to blog about and enjoy the shout out. I am happy to answer any additional questions you may have.”
