2:00PM Water Cooler 7/2/2024 | bare capitalism

By Lambert Strether of Corrente

Readers, I keep needing to leave notes like this, which is embarrassing. I promised a long Water Cooler today, but I didn’t quite take the time it would take to finish a post about the spenders and woes of the Biden debate and the reaction to it. So today will be almost entirely politics, and maybe a little bit of Covid (out of the nine charts, none of which are good news), and tomorrow’s best-placed show is Covid, which I can finish before I hit the road. – of course

Bird Song of the Day

Common Loon, Brown Bear Lake-middle, Kitimat-Stikine, British Columbia, Canada. “2 tons that I can row towards. They were just swimming in the middle of the lake. No sign of a nest, but I didn’t look. After I passed they started calling.”

Plant contact details: Readers, feel free to contact me at lambert [UNDERSCORE] Strether [DOT] corrente [AT] yahoo [DOT] com, to (a) figure out how to send me a check if you don’t like PayPal and (b) figure out how to send pictures of plants. Vegetables are good! Fungi, algae, and corals are considered venerable plants! If you want your handle to appear as a credit, please put it at the beginning of your mail in brackets: (so). If not, I will hide them by using your initials. Check out the previous Water Cooler (with a plant) here. Reply from griffen:

Griffen writes: “Later May will go hiking in the Dupont Forest in North Carolina. The rain has a shadow before going there.”

Students: Water Cooler is an independent business not is put together by NC’s annual fundraiser. So if you see a link you particularly like, or something you can’t see anywhere else, please don’t hesitate to express your appreciation in a tangible way. Remember, a tip is a tip! A generally positive response both makes me feel good and lets me know I’m on the right track with coverage. If I don’t get donations for three or four days I get worried. Obviously, ongoing donations help me with expenses, and I contribute to that trick when I set fundraising goals:

Here is the screen that will appear, which I have helpfully explained:

If you hate PayPal, you can email me at lambert [UNDERSCORE] Strether [DOT] corrente [AT] yahoo [DOT] com, and I’ll give you directions on how to send a check. Thank you!
