A British Columbia chicken won a Guinness World Record for identifying different numbers, colors and letters.
Gabriola Island veterinarian Emily Carrington said she bought five hyline chickens last year to produce eggs, and immediately began training the chickens to recognize magnetic letters and numbers.
“Their task was to tap the number or letter that I taught them to tap and ignore the others. “Even if I add a bunch of other non-letters that they have to click on, they’ll just click on the letter that I trained them to pick,” Carrington told the Nanaimo News Bulletin.
Carrington decided that all his chickens should try for the Guinness World Records title for the most chicken tricks in one minute.
One of the chickens, Lacy, emerged as the clear winner of the flock, correctly identifying 6 letters, numbers and colors in one minute.
The focused nature of the tricks led Guinness World Records to create a new category for Lacy: the most hits by a chicken in one minute.
