The number of people affected by the latest data breach at Evolve Bank & Trust exceeds 7.64 million, according to a document submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office this week by a law firm representing the financial services organization.
According to the document, the breach occurred on February 9, but not until May 29. In a letter sent to its customers and released on Monday, the company, which is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, said it “discovered that some of its systems were not working properly. Although at first it appeared to be a hardware failure, we eventually learned that it was an unauthorized operation. “
There is, Evolve said, “no evidence that the threat actors accessed any customer funds, but it appears that (they) accessed and downloaded customer information from (our) website and file share between February and May 2024.”
