Hawaiian politics

From an MR reader:

The country’s democratic legislature passed two pro-market bills this time.

1) HB2404 CD 1 represents the largest income tax cut in State history (explanation and analysis here).

2) SB 3202 forces counties to allow additional construction of Accessory Dwelling Units on residential properties (news article here).

As someone who works on national HI policy, looking at supply side issues is a new way of thinking here. People are starting to realize that the same old ways of searching don’t work. I expect more laws like this in the coming years.

Hawaii has always been a small-c conservative state, in part because of its large Asian population. Leg again defeated the Cannabis legalization bill this year despite intense pressure from Progressives.

It will be interesting to see what happens next.
