Heparin: Common Blood Thinner Emerges as Potential Cobra Bite Antidote ScienceBlog. If you are in the cobra area, Dr. Kevin recommends carrying a dose and practicing putting a sterile saline gun on your calf, for example, so you don’t have to close it in a real emergency. He recommends using BD-II 1ml insulin syringes with 12 or 13 mm needles (a bag of ten can cost ~$10). We have cobras here but only in the country, and yours truly doesn’t do nature/wilderness hiking, so I’m not at risk. The only victims of cobras I know here are….furzy dogs! His friend laughed and said he had an Arlington (cemetery) in his backyard.

As more people get COVID from summer surgery, it’s a reminder that the CDC’s isolation guidelines aren’t enough.
It’s best to isolate yourself until you find out you don’t have it in multiple tests. If you can’t stay at home all the time, wear an N95 mask to stop the virus from spreading to others. pic.twitter.com/0cFRgmb59Q

US Launches Effort to Stop Russia from Arming Houthis with Antiship Missiles Wall Street Journal (Robin K). This is almost funny. The headline and the front picture of an exploding tank show that Russia is not doing this. But paragraph 5 says, my emphasis: “The combination of intelligence that is Moscow you may be planning providing military support to Yemen…” Ahem, the US needs intelligence to figure out that Russia might be helping the Houthis? After the US supplied and directed weapons to kill people off the coast of Crimea, Putin warned that Russia was willing to pull US assets out of the theater, saying that Russia now views it as supporting operations that the US opposes in other parts of the world. This humble blog went so far as to say that if the US had any sense it would see the Houthis and Hezbollah at the top of the list.

Antidote du jour. Tracie H:
My husband pointed out this little cat stumbling around blindly in our back yard. There are stray cats out there, and we wouldn’t know about its birth. I saw that there was no parent, so I picked it up and its little eyes were so wide that it couldn’t open them, if it was old enough to open them. They were leaking green fluid which made me worried that it was not normal, so we went to the vet. The vet gave an estimate of its age for about 2 weeks, due to the presence of a tooth or two, he put a small drop of flea treatment (the fleas were almost bigger than a cat, called “Indie” on Independence Day (it was the weekend), and equally appropriate, in the spirit of the type of adventure from Indiana Jones He also gave us anti-infection medicine, and the sweet receptionist who was feeding the puppies with bottles had some advice on those methods.
However, when we returned home, we found out that his mother had come out of hiding (a shy, shy cat that we are familiar with but did not realize was in the family’s house) and was wandering around screaming all the time. So, hoping that the cat’s eyes would be fine without medication, since we hadn’t started yet, and we felt that Mom would take care of Indie much better than we could, we put little Indie in her new basket here (sorry for the unattractive cardboard tag that we didn’t take time to remove!) and brought her back to the porch. The mother, Zsa-Zsa with her beautiful long shiny fur, was reluctant to come out to her while we were watching, so we left. When I later went to get the basket I was greeted by the foul smell of strong urine. It’s interesting. I’ve been bothering him about that flea medicine. I think you washed it with the only liquid.
