I won’t double down:
“Dear Tyler,
I’m a big fan. I’m currently focusing on Guinea (Conakry) and I’m wondering what you might have written about the country over the years. My search for “Guinea” in Marginal Revolution results in 50 posts:
- 13 of them refer to “Guinea pigs”.
- In 9 of them he refers to “Papua New Guinea”.
- In 9 he refers to “Equatorial Guinea”.
- In the 5th there is no mention of Guinea (I think the reference to Guinea can be found if one follows the links?)
- In 4 you refer to “Guinea Bissau”.
- In 4 he refers to “Guinea”, the country of that name with its capital in Conakry
- 3 refers to a wider region (Gulf of Guinea, etc.).
- Another reference to the island of “New Guinea”.
- Another indication of “guinea worm”.
- Another reference is “guineas” as in coins.
When talking about the country of Guinea, one refers to Bembeya Jazz (good!), another talks about the news of that country about the DSK issue in 2011, another mentions Guinea as one of the countries of origin of Africans in Guangzhou. the last one you rightly mention in the article “Wikipedia’s knowledge deserts”.
None of these posts are dedicated to the country, each of the Guineans enjoy the Marginal Revolution. I wonder if you would consider adjusting the balance?
If it helps, here I am writing for the Center for African Studies at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University about how Asian demand, investment and policies are driving mining development in Guinea. Guinea will be one of the two fastest growing economies in the world in the next five years after the 20 billion Simandou iron ore mining project. Heard it here first!
Cordialement,
Bernabé Sánchez”
