Here’s Washington Post’s Catherine Rampell on Harris’ price control policy:
It is hard to exaggerate how bad this policy is. It is, in all but name, a full set of government-enforced price controls on every industry, not just food. Supply and demand will no longer determine prices or profit levels. Some Washington administrations are more distant. The FTC would be able to tell, say, Ohio’s Kroger what an acceptable price to charge for milk.
…If your opponent says you’re a “communist,” maybe don’t start with an economic agenda (not accurately worded) like federal price controls.
And here’s a primer on the Nixon price controls announced 53 years ago yesterday. Read Modern Principles to find out more.
