The total cost of family support exceeds 5 percent of GDP, or more than twice what Hungary spends on defenseā€¦

From a record low of 1.23 children per woman in 2011, the country’s fertility rate increased to 1.59 in 2020, but in recent years it has dropped to around 1.5.
