Naked Capitalism: The Most Important Way of Life During the Epidemic Delusion of Our Elites

By Jason Boxman, a fan of used books and used bookstores, New England, the four seasons, public transportation, and homemade Neapolitan pizza.

I have been a near daily visitor to Naked Capitalism ever since I followed a link to the site during the bailout debate in Congress back in 2008.

Please visit the Tip Jar and donate whatever you can to keep the nudity of Capitalism running! I have given every year that I have been able to for the past 16 years, and I will join you in the Tip Jar this year. I always look forward to the annual fundraiser because it’s a great opportunity to show your support for the posters, comment moderators working behind the scenes, and keeping the lights on!

The range of topics covered in the 16 years I have been involved is huge. I will focus on what has the most impact on me: the ongoing epidemic. This time, I can say without a doubt, Naked Capitalism saved my life. And this is not hyperbole.

Having a middle-class background and a college education, and growing up watching the PBS News Hour and marveling at how amazing it was to see bright, intelligent, honest people from both sides of the aisle arguing about the topics of the day, I was secure in my understanding that our elite had the best interests at heart. of America at heart. It’s a beautiful tale. But it’s just that: a myth.

Although I had given up that misunderstanding of our officials and our political system, I still had the mistaken belief that when it comes to public health, the best interests of the American people come first. The response to the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic dispelled that myth.

The coverage of the novel coronavirus in Naked Capitalism immediately took the risk of the pandemic seriously:

China Coronavirus Watch: Updated – Another Chinese City Locked Down to Prevent Spread (23 Jan)

Coronavirus: Not Looking Good (28 Jan)

Dr. Victor Shih: Coronavirus Worse Than SARS (29 Jan)

Given my previous faith in public health, at the beginning of this epidemic, I did not give a thought to air transmission. In the earlier days, I was surprised that I might have to wear any kind of face covering. This idea seemed absurd to me.

Fortunately, early Naked Capitalism assumed the possibility, and later the certainty, of air transfers. And in March 2020 I learned about the first public case of prolonged COVID. After that, I wore a cloth mask everywhere I went, which in the early days was nowhere except to buy groceries, and later I was upgraded in 2022 to a P100 respirator. I am thankful for avoiding infection so far only to the excellent Pandemic coverage here and the helpful comments from the comments, and certainly not to the CDC, or the Biden or Trump Pandemic responses.

If it wasn’t for Naked Capitalism, I would have accepted the “vax and relax” message on COVID; completely wrong public health messages, shockingly appalling in every aspect, from ignoring and underestimating air travel, to misrepresenting the risk of infection.

The daily dose of Naked Capitalism is a powerful assertion of the misinformation, misinformation, and deception of our political people. Without Naked Capitalism, I might not be alive and well today.

Join me in donating this important fundraising week! Your donation supports a site – and a community – that hosts critical thinking and independent thinking! Today, there aren’t that many spaces left online, free of charge, without a paywall, that offer the kind of thoughtful debate and identification that Naked Capitalism has.

Please contribute today to keep this important resource available! Please go to the Tip Jar immediately.
