This is important because data shared between satellites and ground stations travels over the air and has traditionally been vulnerable to theft, leaving satellite communications more accessible than traditional Internet communications, the vendor said.
The UK is publishing a National Quantum Strategy to guide technology standards
In March 2023, the UK government published a new National Quantum Strategy detailing its 10-year plan to lead a quantum-enabled economy, recognizing the importance of quantum technology to UK security.
The UK will work with relevant international bodies to ensure that global quantum technical standards promote its interests and security, including accelerating the commercialization of quantum technology and supporting the industry in the UK, the strategy explained.
The UK will also work with key partners to reach and identify the best way to coordinate national involvement in key areas for the development of quantum technology standards. Relevant industry and academia will participate in these efforts to track key standards work, raise awareness among stakeholders, and develop pathways to support UK engagement with the development of quantum standards, it added.
“There are a number of early quantum computing projects taking place around the world with a key focus on quantum-safe cryptography and quantum key distribution (QKD), with UK leadership in these areas,” the strategy reads.
The IETF is launching a working group to coordinate cryptographic protocols that can withstand value
In January 2023, the IETF launched the Post-Quantum Use In Protocols (PQUIP) working group to coordinate the use of encryption rules that cannot be discovered by most computers. “The idea of the working group is to be a standing place to discuss PQC from the engineering side,” said Sofia Celi, co-chair of PQUI. “It’s also the last place to discuss PQC-related issues in the IETF conventions that don’t have the relative care of other working groups that the IETF has.”
The IESG said the task force was formed on a pilot basis, and in two years, it intends to review it for re-employment for continuation or closure. In August 2023, the group published the paper Post-Quantum Cryptography for Engineers to provide an overview of the current threat landscape and the appropriate algorithms designed to help prevent those threats.
