I loved this book by Craig Brown, even though many of you didn’t. A good biography often brings the subject to life. This history aims to convince you that Queen Elizabeth II was completely misunderstood, that she was a real cipher and would always be outside our normal categories. He loved jigsaw puzzles.
Can you stop a book with sentences like this?:
The Queen Mother’s corgis were edgy.
The Queen was born in 1926, and this book lists names that were first recorded in the same year:
Bible belt, business lunch, parking lot, kitsch, market research, pop song, publicity stunt, recycle, sugar daddy, and totalitarian.
Recommended, for some of you at least. Need to have a bad touch on yourself maybe?
