“The message I got from the research was that customers are working in a world where there is a huge proliferation of products, or applications, and that translates into complexity. Complexity equals risk, and that complexity occurs in many areas,” said Extreme Networks CTO Nabil Bukhari.
Complexity is an interesting topic because it changes, Bukhari said. Ford’s first cars were basically just an engine with brakes, but they were complicated to start and drive. “Now, if you look at a car, it’s like a data center on wheels. But driving and owning them is very easy,” said Bukhari.
“Technology is becoming more and more complex,” but creating a platform makes the process of buying, running, and dealing with it much easier, Bukhari said. On the other hand, it is a very complex technology, but it is integrated and designed in such a way that, as a user, as a customer, it makes your life easier.
Extreme’s mantra is to make secure communication easy to achieve. “And platforms – at least the way we think about platforms – will help a lot in that movement. They will be increasingly easy to buy, use, manage, and there won’t be this huge need to retrain people or acquire new skills,” Bukhari said.
Bukhari also believes that platform-based systems will eventually make AI-based technology shine.
“The true unlocking of AI will happen when AI and platforms converge, and that’s what will bring continuous and growing value,” Bukhari said. “The marketer’s job is not to wash everything with AI, but simply to use AI to accelerate knowledge, instead of experience, or to create new knowledge.”
