You know what many productivity “experts” hope you never find?
The tips they present and the apps they sell are total BS. The experts themselves don’t even use them!
When was the last time you downloaded an app that was sure to make you more productive, used it for less than a day, and then forgot about it?
Was it this month? This week? This morning?
How about when was the last time you killed afternoon reading articles like “100 Successful People Teach You How to Be More Productive” instead of getting things done?
Honestly, are you doing that right now?
Imagine this: you’re playing a basketball game against LeBron James. He has the best shoes, the most expensive athletic shorts, the coolest headband, and the best sweater in the world. He also has no shoes, ripped shorts, and a dress shirt. Who would win?
It sounds silly, but we play the same game against productivity every day.
Tools don’t matter as much as we think.
Novices LOVE to focus on productivity hacks, apps, and tools. It’s easier – and frankly, a lot more fun – to play with shiny new things than to make it work.
In general, the basics — things like a calendar, pen, and paper — work just as well (if not better) than another app. Check out my sample calendar system.
